Fans have long learned to run Bloodborne on PC using the ShadPS4 emulator. Over the past months, many mods have been released for the game — and even something like an unofficial “remaster” has been assembled. However, recently everything reached the next level: The Hunter's Dream and bbhost appeared — a project for “native” Bloodborne launch on Windows and Linux.
The Hunter's Dream is positioned as a custom server for multiplayer Bloodborne. It was created by reverse-engineering the game's network protocol:
This is the online home for the bbhost project, allowing for a full Bloodborne experience on PC. It brings back asynchronous and cooperative multiplayer to the game, and also provides online play through the PlayStation 4 emulator “shadPS4”.
Thanks to The Hunter's Dream, developers explain, players will get Bloodborne's online elements, such as player messages or ghosts. However, cross-platform play between bbhost and shadPS4 is not supported, meaning co-op/invasions are only available between players on their respective platforms.
However, some members of the Bloodborne community and fans of FromSoftware's work are not thrilled with this project. The “bbhost” project was created using the Claude artificial intelligence, and players assume that The Hunter's Dream is also a result of AI technologies. Dissatisfied users are making statements like “don't play this AI slop — use an emulator created by humans.”
