Valve allowed fans to create Left 4 Dead 2: Outbreak - a 64-bit port of the shooter on the CS:GO engine

Recently, modders from the Outbreak Team announced that they are developing a 64-bit port of the cooperative shooter Left 4 Dead 2. They have been working for several years under an NDA (non-disclosure agreement).

The Left 4 Dead 2: Outbreak project is being created under an official license from Valve and is planned to be distributed as a modification through the Steam service.

The project is based on the Outbreak Engine — a significantly modified LTS branch of CS:GO. The engine supports DirectX 11 and “includes only objectively useful improvements, carefully selected from projects by a wide external group of programmers licensed by Valve.”

In addition, the developers promise to pay attention to stability and security, as well as implement a framework that will allow modders to add new weapons independently.

The creators of Left 4 Dead 2: Outbreak are currently attracting authors of well-known plugins to ensure SourceMod support from the release day. They are also lifting various restrictions, which will allow enthusiasts to create truly gigantic levels and fill them with hordes of enemies.

Currently, Left 4 Dead 2: Outbreak is undergoing closed testing. To launch the modification, players will need to have a licensed copy of the original Left 4 Dead 2 in their Steam library.

The project cannot yet be added to the Steam wishlist, as the page is still hidden. The SteamDB page is available at the following link.
