"Are You Kidding Me?": Take-Two Boss Couldn't Believe GTA VI Delay

Developers were allowed to spend additional time on implementing their vision.

The developers of Grand Theft Auto VI have revised the release date several times. In a recent Bloomberg interview, Rockstar Games Publishing Head Jennifer Kolbe spoke about Take-Two's boss's reaction to the game's delay.

Strauss Zelnick was unpleasantly surprised by the news of another delay. Grand Theft Auto VI was originally planned for release last year, but then the release was moved to May 2026. A few months later, Jennifer had to talk to Zelnick again about the GTA VI delay — the release date was shifted to November of this year.

It was this last delay that caused such a reaction from Strauss Zelnick. According to Jennifer Kolbe, he reacted with something like, "Are you kidding me? Please tell me you're kidding."

However, Jennifer explains, when they discussed the reasons for the Grand Theft Auto VI release date delay, he understood everything:

When we discussed why [a delay was needed], he understood everything. And I think we are very lucky that he is such a reasonable person, because many would have told us: "You'd better figure out a way to release the game [on time]." We were lucky not to be in such a situation, because that happens to many teams, and we've all played such games. It's not cool.

Now, Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles.
