Microsoft Changes Xbox Cloud Gaming Requirements - Older TVs Will Be Left Without Games

Owners of older Samsung and LG TVs should check their model: after November 3, Microsoft's cloud games may not launch on them.

Xbox Cloud Gaming may lose support on some Samsung and LG TVs manufactured before 2020 due to changes in Microsoft's service technical requirements starting November 3, 2026.

The cloud service allows users to play games from the Xbox Game Pass catalog directly on their TV without purchasing a console. On compatible Samsung models, this is done using Samsung Gaming Hub.

Microsoft plans to require Chromium 70 support. Some older Samsung TVs run on Chromium 69, released in 2018. The problem is related to Web Workers technologies, and it is not always possible to update the browser separately from the TV's system software.

Similar restrictions may affect some LG models. However, TVs with Android TV and Google TV will likely avoid the problem due to the ability to update Chromium components independently of the main system.

Microsoft has not yet officially announced which models will lose access to the service. The presence of the Xbox app in the TV's store also does not guarantee that cloud gaming will continue to work after the requirements change.
