Recently, the creator of the real-time strategy game Dust Front RTS published a development diary in which he talked about the demo update and the work that "was done during [the author's] absence from the internet".
The developer reminded players that the demo is just a demonstration version of the game:
I would like to note that the demo serves an exclusively demonstrative purpose and you play it for free. I am writing this because, judging by some requests, it is not obvious to everyone from the definition itself.
The maximum camera zoom-out in Dust Front RTS has been almost doubled. To achieve this, the developers explain, extensive work was carried out to adapt the visual part in accordance with the new scale. He had to rewrite some key post-processing elements "so that small geometry at least pretended to exist on the screen". Now, to zoom out, you don't have to hold down the left Alt, and at maximum view, the front line is displayed.
Due to the camera zoom-out, the problem of unit readability worsened, so the developer of Dust Front RTS decided to make a more explicit differentiation in sizes and showed several examples:
Super-heavy equipment became larger to maintain scale on the screen, and smaller units and some buildings were given images with different orientations.
Below in the screenshot you can see the symbols:
- A circle with short lines is an infantry replenishment point.
- Square corners highlight a flying unit.
- A shield means medium combat vehicles.
- An ARV represents a "repair sign".
- A small triangle is an infantry squad.
- A "sledgehammer" in a square near the Supply Depot means that this building is a supply builder.
