As the director of Phantom Blade Zero stated, the first meeting with PlayStation representatives quickly turned into a corporate viewing of demonstration materials. Among those present were industry veterans Kristian Svensson and Shuhei Yoshida, who were impressed by the combat staging, animation fluidity, and the combination of martial arts with a dark atmosphere.
The reaction was so positive that Sony immediately invited the developers to the PlayStation Showcase. It was there that the public first saw the trailer, which had previously made a strong impression on the company's management.
Instead of a cautious assessment of the game's prospects, Sony bet on a dynamic cinematic action game with kung fu elements, moving away from the usual souls-like formulas.
After several years of development, Phantom Blade Zero is approaching release. The game will be released on PS5 and PC on October 29, 2026.
