Recently, Unknown Worlds Entertainment studio published a new development diary for the underwater survival game Subnautica 2. It is dedicated to the work on the big 2.0 update.
Project Creative Director Anthony Gallegos said that the upcoming 2.0 update will be the most massive update since the release of Subnautica 2. Within the team, it is called "EA2" (EA 2.0).
The update will add not only an area with several new biomes to the game, but also many new story elements, and new creatures should also appear. In addition, he noted that the Leviathan will be redesigned: "it will be scarier than ever". The developers are also preparing new elements for construction.

Anthony admitted that the new area in Subnautica 2 seems to him one of the most frightening:
I really feel like this is one of the most terrifying areas we've ever made. It's dark, menacing, and yet truly beautiful. A strange combination.
Subnautica 2 continues to be developed in early access. The game was released in May 2026 and the developers expect to be able to release the full version of the game in 2-3 years (timelines may be revised during the development process).
