"It's like someone got inside your head": GTA VI artist talks about the consequences of the 2022 leak

Rockstar artist in an interview called the GTA VI leaks in 2022 a "strange invasion of privacy."

Rockstar artist Aaron Garbut called the GTA VI leaks in 2022 a "strange invasion of privacy," and studio executives spoke about the game's scope, development changes, and the fight against crunch.

"It feels like someone is rummaging through your dirty laundry. It's like they got inside your head," Garbut explained in an interview with Bloomberg. The leaks revealed unfinished models and design decisions that no one was supposed to see:

It's a very strange invasion of privacy. Emotionally, it's quite difficult to deal with.

Head of Publishing Jennifer Kolbe stated that after the release of Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar decided to rethink its approach to crunch. The studio changed its workflows, and it is proud of this.

Development lead Phil Hooker added that GTA VI continued to change even months before the interview. Due to technical limitations, the team abandoned some areas, deciding to postpone the release to deliver the game as intended.

GTA 6 will be released on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19, 2026.
