Sony closes loopholes for PS5 hacking: users of old firmware versions are under attack

Sony has intensified its fight against PS5 hacking: console users with older firmware versions report problems accessing PlayStation Network amid the spread of the Relapse exploit.

According to PS5 owners, connecting to PSN now requires a system update to version 14.10, while the vulnerability affects firmware 14.00 and older. Users have to choose between keeping the old system version and restoring access to online services and new games.

Interest in the exploit is related to the possibilities of unofficial modifications, including emulation of old platforms and running some PS2 and PS3 games. There are also suggestions that artificial intelligence helps in the development of such tools, although its role in creating Relapse has not been confirmed.

Sony has allegedly achieved the shutdown of the Overdrive platform, which mimicked the PlayStation Store and allowed downloading games to modified PS5s. Owners of hacked consoles risk permanent bans from PSN and losing access to online features. Sony maintains control over system updates and its own online infrastructure, which complicates life for piracy enthusiasts.
