PlayStation Father Explains Why Sony Wants to Ditch Discs

Ken Kutaragi explained that Sony is moving towards a fully digital future, as he considers indefinite support for discs to be economically unfeasible.

Ken Kutaragi, known as the father of PlayStation, admitted that player dissatisfaction with Sony's abandonment of physical copies is understandable, although he considers indefinite support for discs to be economically unfeasible.

In an interview, Kutaragi called the reaction of some of the audience 'a matter of psychology.' In his opinion, people calmly perceive digital content on smartphones, so the rejection of such an approach in games may be related to peculiarities of thinking.

At the same time, Kutaragi understands the dissatisfaction of fans of physical editions, but believes that Sony is moving towards a fully digital future. He also suggested that over time, game consoles might disappear altogether.

I understand why some people are upset, but I don't think it's economically viable.

His opinion is particularly noteworthy given the role he played in making PlayStation one of the leaders in the gaming industry.
