Rockstar Games recently released the trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI. Not only ordinary players, but also Digital Foundry got acquainted with it. Specialists reviewed the footage and shared their opinion.
It seems that the developers have finally managed to eliminate a long-standing problem with the RAGE engine, which was observed back in Grand Theft Auto IV. During animation playback, characteristic jerks could be observed even if the game ran at a stable frame rate. This also happened in GTA V, and in Red Dead Redemption, and was even encountered in previous promotional materials for GTA VI.
However, as Digital Foundry noted, in the fresh GTA VI trailer there is no such characteristic instability — including “during slow camera turns and in other frames where it would usually be noticeable”:
Of course, this is just a short video, and Rockstar could have simply filmed it in such a way that the problem was not too noticeable. But this may also indicate that a long-standing technical oddity has finally been fixed — provided that the footage shown reflects the actual state of the game.
In addition, Digital Foundry specialists noted the realistic lighting and high detail of the environment. They believe that the trailer was rendered in 1440p and then upscaled to 4K, and also suggest that the new QSSR upscaling technology for the base PS5 was not used in the presented video.
Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles.
