A reference to the first GTA was noticed in the GTA VI trailer - it is considered a hint at Lucia and Jason's past

It is assumed that the characters have known each other for many years.

Recently, the developers of Grand Theft Auto VI released a trailer. Players began to examine the footage, and one particular frame attracted the special attention of some observant fans of the franchise.

At the 0:40 mark, the main characters, Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval, are shown sitting on a car. A user named dash noticed an inscription on Jason's T-shirt that refers to the original Grand Theft Auto. The developers mentioned a "combat training school in North Fort Law" (an area in the state of New Guernsey).

There is an opinion that this is not just a reference for attentive veterans of the franchise, but that the Rockstar Games team is hinting at the backstory of Lucia and Jason. It is already known that Lucia is from Liberty City, which is located near the state of New Guernsey, and the release trailer also showed the protagonist's military past. If Jason indeed underwent military training in North Fort Law, he could have met Lucia during that period of his life.

The release of Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles.
