Bloober Team is developing the exclusive horror game Onyx: The Dark Grip for Nintendo Switch 2, drawing inspiration from the GameCube era when Resident Evil 4 and Eternal Darkness were released on the console.
In an interview, Bloober Team head Piotr Babieno and Tymon Smektała from Broken Mirror Games discussed how they earned the trust of their Japanese partner. According to Smektała, Japanese companies value long-term relationships and want to be sure that their partner shares their approach. The success of Silent Hill 2 Remake helped the studio open new doors.
Onyx is a psychological horror game with 2.5D graphics, designed exclusively for handheld mode. The main character is simultaneously a god and a human possessed by this deity. The developers intend to blur the line between reality and illusion, making players doubt what they see, and to turn the controls and the console itself into part of the horror.
Babieno called the project a dream come true for a Nintendo fan. The studio is counting on long-term cooperation and wants to prove that it deserves the trust of major industry players.
