"It Just Works": Modder Turns Diablo into a 3D Shooter with Multiplayer and Scalable Interface

It will be possible to enable the display of an authentic sky.

Recently, modder Drelvak published a new video diary dedicated to the development of a large-scale modification for the first Diablo. He offers a look at the Blizzard Entertainment classic from a different angle — transforming the ARPG into a 3D first-person shooter.

Controls work with WASD and mouse, while using the old game logic: "movement is still cell-based." Players will be able to instantly switch between the classic isometric and new 3D views by pressing the G key, just like in Diablo II: Resurrected.

For the 3D version of Diablo locations, the modder used assets from in-game cutscenes, so it turned out authentically. He also cut out a piece of the sky from there to add a skybox. It is optional, so players can turn off the sky — in which case there will simply be black space instead.

In addition, Drelvak added multiplayer and has already tested it on a local network. He also solved a long-standing problem with interface scaling: in his version, isometric zoom and interface size are no longer dependent on each other — you can freely change the HUD scale.

Now, Drelvak explains, "half" of Diablo is already ready. Work on the modification is gradually progressing.
