Rockstar accused of hiring 'snitches' to spy on unionized GTA VI developers

It is assumed that information was rewarded with bonuses.

It recently became known that the independent trade union of UK workers (IWGB) accused Rockstar Games of offering a bonus to informants who allegedly spied on the union's private Discord* server.

An investigation is currently underway into the dismissal of more than 30 employees. Rockstar Games itself claims that they were fired for leaking confidential information. The case went to court and, as Vertical Slice reports, during the proceedings, Jennifer Kolbe, head of Rockstar's publishing division, was presented with evidence of correspondence between HR manager Julie Steven and an alleged informant, referred to as an information provider. The presented messages indicate that Steven offered the employee an additional day off as compensation for monitoring the union's private server.

This "informant" requested an hour off the next day, to which Steven allegedly replied "no problem" — after which the request was approved through an official tool used at Rockstar.

The trial is ongoing and is expected to conclude on November 18 of this year, i.e., one day before the release of GTA VI.
