The nightmare of physical Switch 2 editions has become a reality. Nintendo sent the player to the publisher

Buyers of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer for Nintendo Switch 2 cannot launch the game from physical media due to an error, presumably related to the absence of necessary files on Nintendo's servers.

The game was released on October 16, but one Reddit user encountered error 2016-0070 after installing a cartridge purchased at the American Target chain. The edition uses a Game-Key Card, which requires downloading game data from the internet.

In the Nintendo eShop, the Switch 2 version takes up only 82 MB, while the edition for the first Switch is about 2 GB, and for Xbox – 6.35 GB. It is possible that the necessary files are simply missing from Nintendo's servers.

The player contacted Nintendo, as standard recommendations did not help. He was then directed to the publisher GameMill Entertainment, whom he also could not reach: emails did not go through, and comments on the company's official YouTube channel are disabled.

The game is based on the 1964 Christmas TV movie and includes four motion-controlled mini-games for two players. For now, we have to wait for Nintendo or the publisher to fix the problem.

The situation once again raises the question of Game-Key Cards: if servers are shut down in a few years, owners of physical editions may lose the ability to download and play purchased games.
