Recently, a hacker under the nickname gezine_dev boasted that they were able to find a vulnerability in the (at that time) current firmware 14.10.00. This firmware version is necessary to launch Grand Theft Auto VI. Soon, Sony reacted and introduced a new firmware version “26.07-14.20.00”.
However, tech enthusiasts quickly responded to this as well. Soon after the firmware release, user fuleretruts reported discovering a new vulnerability:
It took Sony two days to release a patch. Hackers bypassed the protection in just 8 hours. A hacker under the nickname master_s9 published an exploit for PS5 firmware version 14.20 — the latest update from Sony. Sony released this version two days after the discovery of a vulnerability in 14.10, but even such speed was not enough. The new firmware was cracked in record time. PS5 continues to attract the attention of both developers and hackers. The cat-and-mouse game continues.
Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. It seems that by then, Sony may release at least one more firmware update to enhance console security.
