CD Projekt RED CEO Michał Nowakowski commented on the closure of BioWare and recalled how the Canadian studio helped create The Witcher and bring the Polish team to an international level.
The closure of BioWare was a serious loss for the gaming industry. Electronic Arts decided to cease the operations of the studio that gave players the Mass Effect and Dragon Age series.
Nowakowski said that the relationship between the companies began back when CD Projekt was localizing and selling Baldur’s Gate games in Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia. Later, BioWare provided Polish developers with the Aurora engine for the first The Witcher, shared their experience, and allocated them a spot at their E3 booth.
BioWare played a huge role in the history of CD Projekt RED. […] I feel very sorry for the people affected by this decision, and also because a legendary brand is disappearing from the market. This is a bad day for the gaming industry.
Michael Gamble, director of the canceled Mass Effect, reacted to his words:
Thank you, Michał. We have always been your fans. And always will be.
