Stranger Than Heaven will surprise even Yakuza fans - authors showed new materials

Fresh materials for Stranger Than Heaven revealed details about the RGG Studio game, including the combat system, side activities, and unusual pastimes.

Stranger Than Heaven is a new game from the creators of Yakuza and Like a Dragon, who decided to temporarily step away from the main series and tell a story about the past of a familiar world.

The release will take place on January 15, 2027, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. On day one, the game will be available on Xbox Game Pass. Journalists and bloggers have already tried a three-hour demo version.

It features two of the five locations: Kokura in Fukuoka in 1915 and Minami in Osaka in 1943. The main character, Makoto Daito, will embark on a journey from San Francisco to Japan, spanning five decades.

The combat system has become more complex: strikes and parrying depend on direction and control of individual body parts. At the same time, the game will retain a variety of side activities and the conventionality of what is happening; Snoop Dogg will even appear in the main story.

Among the additional activities, a career as a concert organizer and composer stands out. Even reading newspapers and walking influence character development.
