Miyamoto Revealed How He Conceived Super Mario Bros. and Why Mario Doesn't Fight Bowser

The award ceremony took place after a press conference on October 22 at Nintendo's headquarters in Kyoto. Miyamoto noted that he perceives it as recognition of the entire team's merits: «I am very happy to receive such an honorable award. As I always say, I did not create all of this alone, but together with many people, so I intend to accept it on their behalf».

Miyamoto joined Nintendo in 1977 and participated in the creation of Donkey Kong, Super Mario Bros., and The Legend of Zelda. He explained that he wanted to make games interesting even to those who usually don't play, and called interactivity one of the main advantages of the industry.

Speaking about generative AI, Miyamoto emphasized that the automation of routine tasks only increases the importance of the author's intent:

No matter how far technology advances, I think we will still have work that we can do.

He also revealed the secret of Super Mario Bros.: Mario originally did not defeat Bowser in battle, but simply jumped over him. This decision helped make the game's ending interesting without a complex boss fight.
