In October 2026, fans of The Witcher and CD Projekt RED celebrate the 19th anniversary of the original The Witcher. The developers published an address to the community and also showcased a collection of shots, revealing artwork and the physical edition of the game.
In the publication, the CD Projekt RED team not only thanked players for their support, but also highlighted the significant role of the now-defunct BioWare. Back then, the studio provided the developers not only with the Aurora Engine, but also with their expertise, as well as helped with promotion:
19 years ago, the ambitious dream of bringing the iconic book saga to the world of video games became a reality—the first The Witcher was released. Thus began a journey that would have been impossible without the support of our friends at BioWare. They gave us the Aurora Engine, shared their knowledge, and even set aside space at their E3 booth—all of which helped us realize our vision and craft Geralt’s first gaming adventure.
Currently, CD Projekt RED continues to expand The Witcher franchise. Next year, the story expansion Songs of the Past is expected to be released for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, while a full-fledged new game, The Witcher 4, is scheduled for release in 2028.
