A Playden for PS5 launcher has appeared on jailbroken PS5s, allowing users to run Steam games directly on the Sony console without streaming from a computer.
The project was developed by enthusiast leolobato based on Playden for macOS. The user logs into their account via a QR code, selects games from their library, and downloads them, after which separate tiles appear on the PS5's home screen. The application works without installing Linux, using a Wine port and DXVK.
The development is progressing rapidly: version 0.5.0 received Direct3D 12 support via VKD3D-Proton. Cyberpunk 2077, Hollow Knight, Cuphead, and Deep Rock Galactic are already listed as 'playable'.
The latest builds also support importing games via USB and FTP, 120 Hz mode, and 4K resolution.
The PS5 will not yet be a full-fledged PC replacement: older and independent games work best, while projects with kernel-level anti-cheat and additional launchers like EA app often do not launch.
Also, the experiment is unsafe: the Steam token is stored unencrypted, and errors can lead to cloud save overwrites.
