“Go take a shower”: Steam, Dota 2, and CS2 stopped working—some gamers panicked

Some gamers even began to consider going outside for some fresh air.

This week for Steam started with an outage. On the evening of October 26, players began complaining about the performance of Valve’s service.

Login stopped working for some users—they lost the ability to sign in to the system. Later, fans of the MOBA game Dota 2 and the online shooter Counter-Strike 2 began complaining about problems accessing the servers.

The service “detector404” recorded a surge in reports stating “no connection to server”, “it constantly requests a game client update upon login”, and some players also noted “high ping”:

A user going by the handle ZeHirMan published a “survival guide” for when Steam goes down:

  • Step one: take a shower.
  • Step two: get dressed.
  • Step three: go outside and touch grass.
  • Step four: wait for the outage to end
  • Step five: enjoy

Restarting the PC did not help resolve the issue, and complaints came not only from Russia, but also from other regions. Therefore, players believe that in this case the outage occurred on Valve’s own servers. Players are now keeping an eye on services like Steam Status and tracking error reports.
