A video by independent creator Vililo demonstrates a stable 60 FPS while exploring the open world and during shootouts in Red Dead Redemption 2. This is twice the standard 30 FPS that the console version of the game runs at. On PC, the increased frame rate has been available for a long time.
The modification is not without its drawbacks. At 60 FPS, the CPU and GPU temperatures can rise noticeably. According to the author, such behavior is not uncommon for demanding PS5 games, and the main goal was to prove that the console is capable of handling such a load.
The demonstration has once again fueled players’ requests for a full patch for current-gen consoles. Rockstar has ignored these demands for years. For now, running at 60 FPS remains an experiment on a modded console, which requires an older firmware version.
