“Nobody reviews games on Xbox”: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 exposed Microsoft problem

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 was left without an official average score on Xbox Series X due to a lack of reviews, highlighting the difficulties journalists face in gaining access to games on Microsoft consoles.

The Infinity Ward shooter scored 87% on Metacritic on Nintendo Switch 2, 88% on PS5, and 86% on PC. Only two reviews were published for the Xbox Series X version, which is not enough to calculate a rating.

Windows Central journalist Jez Corden drew attention to the issue. According to him, on PC and PlayStation journalists only need to redeem the code they receive, whereas for Xbox they must provide an Xbox Live Device ID and wait for manual approval from the publisher.

The difficulties also affect Windows Central itself: the editorial staff prepared a review of Modern Warfare 4 on PC because that was the version they received at the pre-release event.

Xbox Technical Director Scott Van Vliet has already responded to Corden’s article, stating that the company, in cooperation with the press and content creators, will try to resolve the code issue for Microsoft’s console.
