Pokémon Unite will be shut down on March 23, 2027: the popular free-to-play game with over 100 million downloads on Google Play will cease operations.
Pokémon Unite was released in 2021 on Nintendo Switch and smartphones. The game from TiMi Studio Group received high user ratings: its rating is 4.3 out of 5 on Google Play, and 4.7 out of 5 on the App Store.
The Pokémon Company has decided to end support for the project. The servers will be shut down on March 23, 2027, after which the game will become unavailable in all forms. Sales of the in-game Aeos currency have already been stopped, and accumulated funds can be spent before the server closure.
This is yet another example of the downside to the “games as a service” model. Earlier, Square Enix announced the closure of a game based on Final Fantasy VII, and Nintendo ended support for Mario Kart Tour, with players losing access to purchased content.
