For nearly five years, players have been waiting for the completion of the story campaign of The Long Dark. The finale of the story was released in April in a free update, and the Hinterland studio continues to develop the game.
Iron Road has arrived in early access. Currently, the expansion allows players to explore about 30 km of railway tracks, which are planned to be expanded to more than 100 km. In the coming months, new route sections and four islands for exploration will appear. The DLC develops one of the interesting themes of the original's final chapters – steam locomotive travel.
Against the backdrop of the Iron Road release, The Long Dark itself climbed to 15th place on the Steam top sellers chart and has slipped to 33rd at the time of publication. Meanwhile, Hinterland is working on the sequel Blackfrost: The Long Dark 2, which is scheduled to enter early access in 2027.
