Phantom Blade Zero tested on PS5 and PS5 Pro – there are nuances

Digital Foundry compared Phantom Blade Zero on PS5 and PS5 Pro: the game offers three graphics modes. The option targeting 60 FPS proved to be the most successful.

The Chinese action game on Unreal Engine 5 uses Nanite and Lumen. Digital Foundry experts praised the lighting, reflections, and location design, noting isolated issues with shadows. Instead of an open world, players can expect small, meticulously crafted areas with branching paths.

On the standard PS5, 60, 40, and 30 FPS modes are available. The first provides stable performance in most situations, while the balanced mode suffers from uneven frame pacing even with VRR. In quality mode, the frame rate sometimes exceeds the stated 30 FPS.

The PS5 Pro offers a sharper image and additional ray tracing effects, including reflections, global illumination, and shadows. At the same time, there is no noticeable performance boost, and the issues with the 40 FPS mode persist.

Digital Foundry recommends playing on both consoles in performance mode: smoothness and responsive controls are more important than minor graphical improvements.
