World of Warcraft being prepared for release on consoles? Producer announced gamepad support

The feature will first appear in World of Warcraft: Forever.

Blizzard Entertainment is currently preparing for the launch of World of Warcraft: Forever. The creators of the project are giving interviews and sharing future plans.

For many MMORPG fans during the WoW: Forever beta, the arrival of native gamepad support came as a surprise. The game was originally created with the assumption that a mouse and keyboard would be used for control, but now players will have an official alternative control option.

During a conversation with the media, executive producer Holly Longdale said that gamepad support would first appear in World of Warcraft: Forever, which is expected to be released in early November, and then the feature is planned to be implemented in other versions of WoW:

“Play anywhere, and over time — [on any device],” that is what we are striving for. But the first step on this journey is to make gamepads work really well with World of Warcraft, and we decided that Forever is the perfect place to start […] We just want the game to be playable anywhere. We’ve already seen people running it on the ROG Ally X…

Holly Longdale did not specify when gamepad support might be introduced to the main World of Warcraft and WoW: Classic.

Recently, World of Warcraft still made its way to a console, though not quite the way some players would have liked. An enthusiast launched the MMORPG on the SEGA Dreamcast.
