The Lost Wild will show how terrifying it is to live side by side with dinosaurs

Instead of fighting every animal they encounter, players will have to hide from predators and get used to living alongside them.

Great Ape studio has released a development diary for The Lost Wild, detailing how it creates scientifically authentic dinosaurs capable of terrifying players with their behavior.

In the video, the team explains their approach to creating prehistoric creatures. According to game director Gary Napper, it is important to convey the fear of encountering such animals and show how they behave in their environment.

Writer Tom Hughes described the protagonist Saskia as an ordinary person who suddenly finds herself among prehistoric creatures. Art director Tim Mehmet spoke about research and trips, including one to the California Redwood forest. Programmer Lou Thorpe-Monaghan emphasized that the team views the dinosaurs as distinct characters rather than enemies:

“We have always treated them as creatures that exist independently of the player’s presence.”

Players will have to hide from dinosaurs and get used to coexisting with them, rather than fighting every animal they encounter. The Lost Wild is expected to release in 2027 on PC and PS5, with an exact date yet to be announced.
