The latest franchise entries, God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarok, have officially made their way to PC, but some players wanted to experience the classic games chronicling Kratos's adventures.
Gradually, various enthusiasts have been porting PlayStation games using the power of artificial intelligence. Recently, two ports of the original God of War (2005), which was released on the PlayStation 2 console, were introduced.
The modders explained that the game does not run via an emulator—it is a native (unofficial) PC port of God of War.
Vnnc1 presented “gow-native-pc”. According to him, the current version is functional overall, but requires optimization: God of War does not run at a stable 60 FPS, and frame drops can happen in certain scenes.
danielalves96, who created the “gow-pc-port” project, clarified a technical detail: the game logic of God of War is tied to 60 Hz, so gameplay is limited to 60 FPS, whereas the window can run at a refresh rate of 60, 120, or 144 Hz.
Developers Vnnc1 and danielalves96 published the source code for the “gow-native-pc” and “gow-pc-port” projects openly on GitHub. As usual, copyright-protected assets are not included in the archive.
