Following the closure of BioWare studio and the cancellation of the development of the new Mass Effect, some fans of the franchise launched a campaign to save the game. While some limit themselves to slogans on social media, there are also occasional “physical” protests.
Earlier, fans organized a fundraiser and paid for the installation of several #SaveMassEffect billboards, and now photos by a user nicknamed Ok_Link9625 have gone viral within the game’s fan community. According to him, he was walking past the Electronic Arts office in Madrid after leaving a cinema and saw graffiti near the entrance and on the wall calling to save Mass Effect.
This form of protest has sparked debate within the community. Some Mass Effect fans view this as an act of vandalism and believe it harms the #SaveMassEffect movement:
Whoever did this didn’t even think about how it could backfire on us in the eyes of the public. I am certainly all for saving ME, but we should not resort to such measures — Xan1995
This month, Mass Effect fans plan to hold a gaming marathon on PC and consoles. They aim to boost the player count metrics in the games to demonstrate to Electronic Arts that there is still interest in the franchise.
