Modder remakes Dino Crisis 2 into a third-person 3D action game

Fans have long been asking Capcom for a Resident Evil-style remake.

Capcom has been actively releasing remakes of various installments in the Resident Evil franchise. The new versions of classic games have received numerous positive reviews, watched with envy by fans of another franchise — Dino Crisis. For many years, they have been dreaming of similar remakes, but so far, there are only fan projects.

Recently, gamers' attention was drawn to a trailer by a modder known as RAW (@postraw). He shared that he is turning Dino Crisis 2 into a full-fledged third-person 3D game.

RAW explained that the developers did not use full 3D environments in the original Dino Crisis 2. Instead, they added pre-rendered backgrounds to the game, so for his project, the modder is recreating the locations in 3D from scratch.

The modder is replacing legacy technologies with newer ones. For example, Direct3D 9 will be used instead of DirectDraw 7 to ensure better GPU support; the mod will also replace DirectInput 7 with XInput, RawInput, etc. In addition, support for XAudio2 (for audio) will be introduced.

For now, the 3D version of Dino Crisis 2 is in the early stages of development. The modder promises to show more “soon”.
