PS5 gets new firmware: Sony attempts to stop another console jailbreak

Sony has released firmware 26.07-14.22.00 for the PS5 with unspecified “security fixes.”

Sony has released PS5 firmware update version 26.07-14.22.00, which addresses security vulnerabilities amid recent reports of a new exploit discovered to jailbreak the console.

The official changelog lists only one change: “Some security fixes have been made to the system software.” Sony did not specify which vulnerabilities were patched.

The update arrived shortly after reports of a new exploit targeting firmware 14.20. Security researcher kuzibelit claimed to have discovered a way to execute arbitrary code in the PS5 user space. Using Remote Lua Loader, they managed to execute a payload and launch an FTP server on port 1337.

Previously, the jailbreak community extended support for the Relapse exploit up to firmware 13.60. In version 14.00, Sony patched the vulnerabilities used, which is why newer console versions were considered unsupported by public jailbreak methods.
