This past summer, gamers awaiting Grand Theft Auto VI took notice of the story of a user known as Void Only (Jerry). He posted videos on TikTok and shared his story: Jerry was critically ill and needed a lung transplant. He desperately wanted to play the new installment in the Rockstar Games franchise, and his story inspired other community members.
Void Only's family organized a fundraiser, and players supported him, raising several tens of thousands of dollars. These funds were planned to be spent on the surgery itself, as well as on lengthy post-operative recovery.
He successfully underwent the lung transplant, but his condition later began to deteriorate. Relatives shared that he maintained his optimism until the very end. Void Only passed away about three weeks before the release of GTA VI.
Grand Theft Auto VI was in development for many years and its release date was postponed several times, so not everyone who wanted to play was able to make it to November of this year. Earlier, Rockstar Games published a release trailer, under which some players remembered those who are no longer with us today.
The release of GTA VI is scheduled for November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles.
