Mario Kart World launched with DLSS 5. The result resembles an animated feature film

Mario Kart World has been run on PC using NVIDIA DLSS 5 Neural Rendering, making the racing game resemble an animated Super Mario feature film.

A video has surfaced online showcasing Mario Kart World running on PC with NVIDIA DLSS 5 Neural Rendering technology. The experiment became possible after the Nintendo Switch 2 security was cracked, enabling games to be dumped and run via emulators. The creator of the video, ChillyWillMD, demonstrated the race at 60 frames per second on a PC powered by a GeForce RTX 5060 Ti graphics card and an Intel Core i9-13900K processor.

The primary focus is on the lighting and image rendering. DLSS 5 gives the environments and characters a more cinematic look, reminiscent of scenes from animated Super Mario feature films. However, the result is still far from ideal: jagged edges are visible on character models, and the lighting from the karts' headlights suffers from heavy noise.

There is also a more intriguing aspect to the experiment. Nintendo relies on NVIDIA graphics solutions, and the Switch 2 already supports a simplified version of DLSS Super Resolution. Therefore, future consoles from the company could theoretically adopt other technologies as well, including Frame Generation and Neural Rendering.
