“Star Wars” fans can return to the classic adventure in an updated form. An enthusiast going by the handle Ruppertle ported Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2 to Unreal Engine 5, and the latest version of the fan remake is already available for free download.
The creator released the first beta version back in November 2025. Now the project has received another update with additional features. Players have access to four levels from the original game, five maps for Survival mode, and a Sandbox mode. A 3D model viewer, a separate test level, and numerous secrets have also been added.
You can download the remake for free via the project's Patreon page. Ruppertle has also prepared a new trailer comparing the original game with his own version. The video clearly demonstrates the visual changes and the capabilities of the Epic Games engine.
The project shows how Unreal Engine 5 can breathe new life into a classic. However, this is strictly a fan-made development, not an official return of the series from Lucasfilm or Electronic Arts.
