God of War: Ragnarok became PlayStation Studios' most profitable game for PS5 – analysts

Years after its release, Santa Monica Studio's game continues to find buyers and even outsells many new releases.

God of War: Ragnarok has sold 21.6 million copies, brought Sony about $1.4 billion, and continues to attract new buyers even several years after its release.

According to estimates by analytical firm Alinea Analytics, 20.1 million copies of the game were purchased on PlayStation consoles. Meanwhile, 75.2% of sales on these platforms came from the PS5. Another 1.6 million copies were purchased by Steam users. Total revenue reached approximately $1.4 billion, making the Santa Monica Studio project the most profitable first-party PlayStation Studios game of the current console generation.

The results for 2026 are particularly notable: over this period, God of War: Ragnarok was purchased another 1.1 million times, generating nearly $60 million. Around 68% of this amount came from sales on PlayStation platforms. This year, the game also outsold new releases such as Gears of War: E-Day and Saros.

It should be noted that God of War: Ragnarok has been available to PlayStation Plus Extra subscribers for about two years. Analysts estimate that 6.7 million users have already tried the game through the service. Being in the subscription did not stop the project from continuing to attract buyers. The results show just how long major Sony games can remain profitable after release.
