Over 250,000 GB of RAM allocated to World of Warcraft: Forever to ensure a smooth launch

The full launch of World of Warcraft: Forever took place recently. The project attracted a huge number of players, yet the game's servers proved to be surprisingly stable. As it turned out, Blizzard Entertainment decided to allocate massive resources to ensure a smooth launch.

A meme was posted on the World of Warcraft social media account, briefly describing what is “under the hood” of WoW: Forever. A gnome slaps a car featuring the project's logo and tells an orc that “this bad boy” runs on 3,924 virtual machines, 251,136 GB of RAM, and 70,480 CPU cores.

The successful launch of World of Warcraft: Forever was celebrated by Holly Longdale, producer and Blizzard's Vice President of World of Warcraft. She posted a message to the community:

Risking a jinx, but so far it’s mostly ok, which is in itself, crazy. Team did massive prep work after beta was such a mess. And this launch is even crazier than we imagined it could be, but thankfully the team had plans on plans on plans. Incredible human beings, imo.

Early World of Warcraft: Forever players were pleased with the launch, calling it one of the smoothest in WoW history.
