Nikita Buyanov admitted that most Escape from Tarkov players are currently playing in PvE mode and explained the audience distribution

The developer is confident that Tarkov has always been about PvP.

The first season of Kord Breach is currently underway in Escape from Tarkov. Now, in addition to the familiar PvP and PvE Zone modes, a third seasonal mode is available. Recently, Battlestate Games head Nikita Buyanov decided to share updated statistics on player preferences.

The majority are now in PvE mode, while the share of players in PvP (regular + seasonal mode) is 40%.

As usual, Buyanov only indicates percentage shares without the exact player counts:

  • 25% — regular PvP (was 15% in early September)
  • 15% — PvP Season (previously 35%)
  • 60% — PvE (previously 50%)

In the comments, PvE fans in Escape from Tarkov began mocking those playing in PvP modes and claimed that “PVE is just better” than PvP.

Nikita Buyanov noticed the discussion and decided to explain this player distribution across modes. According to him, Escape from Tarkov has always been a game about PvP; it is just that PvP players consume content faster and mainly return to the game for in-game events while waiting for the new season:

This is a natural part of the Tarkov game cycle. PvP players burn through content much faster, and then mostly return for events while waiting for the next season. PvE players are a more stable audience: their activity stays relatively flat throughout the wipe. Using the current audience distribution to claim that nobody needs the PvP mode is simply absurd. Tarkov has ALWAYS been and will be about PvP. PvE is a great addition for those who want to play with less stress, and I respect that. Bros, please calm down.
