GTA VI could arrive on PC sooner than players expect — Rockstar veteran shared his outlook and estimated the cost of an unofficial port

Enthusiasts would need a substantial budget to generate such a port, but many fans would be willing to pay for GTA VI on PC.

Grand Theft Auto VI will be released soon, but not on PC — initially, the game will be available only on consoles. Obbe Vermeij, former technical director at Rockstar North, recently gave an interview and suggested that the PC version of the new installment in the franchise might arrive sooner than expected.

The specialist noted that enthusiasts are currently actively creating unofficial ports of console games using artificial intelligence. He is confident that Rockstar Games is aware of this as well — a potential release of a fan-made PC version of GTA VI could negatively affect subsequent sales of the game on this platform:

If I were Rockstar, I would be worried that someone might just take the PlayStation 5 version and adapt it for PC using AI. That version wouldn’t be as polished as an official PC release [from Rockstar itself], but it could still hurt sales.

Obbe Vermeij expressed the opinion that creating an AI-assisted port of GTA VI would require spending “tens of thousands of dollars” on tokens. However, since it is GTA VI, the specialist believes people will still attempt to develop an unofficial PC version.

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. According to some rumors, the PC release could happen as early as the beginning of 2027.

Some tech enthusiasts are already processing the GTA VI gameplay presentation through various tools to imagine what the gameplay might look like on PC with high frame rates and NVIDIA DLSS 5 technology.
