Sony introduced an updated DualSense Edge – still keeping the most important part under wraps

Sony has introduced an updated version of the DualSense Edge for PS5, which has already appeared in the Japanese PlayStation store. The controller received a new model number and modified accessories.

Sony Interactive Entertainment has added the DualSense Edge designated CFI-ZCP2J to its lineup. User Zuby_Tech noticed the device’s appearance on the official Japanese PlayStation store. The manufacturer confirmed updates to the carrying case and USB cable. Meanwhile, the price of the controller remains unchanged at 34,980 yen.

The main intrigue lies in potential changes to the build itself. Sony has not yet revealed details regarding the hardware specifications of the new version. It is possible that the manufacturer refined the internal components. One theory links the update to EU regulations requiring users to be able to replace batteries on their own using common tools. However, replacing the battery in the previous DualSense Edge is already relatively simple, so the true reason for the new model’s arrival remains unknown.

The first information about the device surfaced back in August, when the US Federal Communications Commission published Sony documents featuring the number CFI-ZCP2. The previous DualSense Edge is designated CFI-ZCP1. Part of the documentation, including the user manual and internal photos, remains confidential for now. They are scheduled to be made public on January 31, 2027. Release dates for the updated controller in other regions are also unknown.
