The PlayStation Size account shared the discovery on its X page. If the information is confirmed, the retro action game with Metroidvania elements will make its way to PS4 several months after launching exclusively on PS5.
God of War: Sons of Sparta was developed by Mega Cat Studios in collaboration with SIE Santa Monica Studio. The game was released on February 12, 2026, and differs noticeably from the mainline entries in the series. It is a 2D action platformer featuring pixel graphics, side-scrolling combat, and world exploration.
The events unfold earlier than in the rest of the franchise's games. The plot follows young Kratos and Deimos during their training in the Spartan agoge, depicting the future god's life before he became a legendary warrior.
Sons of Sparta also diverges from the direction established by 2018's God of War. That story continued in God of War Ragnarök (2022), concluding the Norse saga. In 2023, the free Valhalla expansion was released, featuring roguelite elements and focusing on Kratos grappling with his past.
However, Sony and the developers have not yet confirmed the release of Sons of Sparta on PS4.
