Yakuza franchise CEO Toshihiro Nagoshi confirmed the creation of another installment at the Famitsu Awards 2016 ceremony:
“Yakuza 6 is the final chapter in Kazuma Kiryu's life. But I want to create a new Yakuza game. I don't think it will be a single game. Most likely, it will be a series. We have the Dragon Engine, which we used for Yakuza 6 and which we will improve. I have already started working on the new installment. We will talk about it soon.”
Yakuza 6 was released on PS4 in December 2016 in Japan. It will be released in Europe and North America in early 2018. And on August 29, the game Yakuza: Kiwami will be released – a remake of the first part of the series. The developers also expressed interest in releasing the franchise on Switch.
