Sony’s forecast regarding PS3 and PSP sales

Sony has revised its PS3 sales forecast for the 2008 calendar year from 11 to 9.5 million consoles, despite fairly good performance in the fourth quarter (4.9 million consoles). On the other hand, Sony believes that instead of 10 million PSPs, it will be able to sell 13 million units.

Over the last quarter of last year, Sony managed to earn about 120 million dollars from the PlayStation brand. This might not seem like much, but compared to the same period last year, when Sony lost more than half a billion dollars, the achievement looks much more impressive.

Gaming sales over the final three months of 2007 rose by 38% compared to the previous year’s figures. Incidentally, Sony acknowledged that the PS2’s age is beginning to show, but despite the drop in sales figures, the console remains profitable.
