In an interview with GI, Martyn Brown, head of the well-known studio Team 17, stated that adding an SD card slot to the DSi console is certainly a great idea; however, he immediately added that such a move could lead to the spread of piracy.

“Of course, the SD slot opens up new opportunities for developers, and also allows players to interact with the DSi with greater comfort,” he stated. “I just hope that Nintendo implemented some protection to prevent the spread of piracy, as was the case with the DS Lite (Slot-1).”

“I am afraid that in this case, the SD card slot will allow enthusiasts to hack the console faster and easier, and piracy will spread to the DSi even more than it did on the original console.”
