In the previous episode, the prisoners of the digital world were allowed to choose their own adventure. People finally enjoyed games to their liking, but since then, events have returned to normal – all adventures are invented by an AI named Caine, so that his wards do not lose heart.
By the time of the new adventure, the situation seems more cruel. Before that, Caine did everything possible to ensure that the worlds he created were as inoffensive and shocking as possible for people with delicate minds. Swearing and cruelty are condemned in his universe, although adult and creepy things are visible here and there.
This time, Caine didn’t even try to "smooth things over." He simply handed out firearms to his wards to arrange a "trust test." When the test inevitably failed, Caine gave up and allowed everyone to "let off steam" with the help of the weapons issued.
The rules of the new game are similar to the rules of a royal battle: participants scatter around the Digital Circus and collect weapons hidden in secluded places. The collected weapons are then used against comrades until they run out of health and end up in the "losers' corner." The team that still has living members wins.
This situation has a serious moral background. The participants in the game cannot die – bullets will not even harm them. However, players are not sitting in a safe room behind a keyboard, and are not even walking with a virtual reality helmet on their heads. They are completely immersed in the process, which makes the shootout more realistic, as is the feeling of shooting at living people. And not all participants like this perspective. On the other hand, some were delighted with the opportunity to shoot from the heart.
The essence of the digital world was revealed more deeply — attention was paid to the fact that everything in it is artificial. People clinging to the familiar reality and laws of physics only limited themselves — as soon as they succumbed to the general madness, their combat skills increased significantly.
The character named Kinger showed that he is able to change the rules of the game. Perhaps he accepted the essence of existence in the form of a digital avatar, which allowed him to influence the environment. But it may also be that he is an old-school specialist – a representative of the breed that created programs and games from scratch. His skills allow him to do things with the surrounding information that seem like miracles in the modern world.
The question of role-playing was raised. Some people are so immersed in their roles in a video game that they become one with the created image. Such a serious immersion can affect the real personality and does not benefit anyone — it is in this situation that one of the characters of the show found himself.
