Pre-orders for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl have been open for quite some time. Expansions have already been announced, offered for advance purchase as part of a “season pass”. This, in turn, is only available in the most expensive edition of the game. However, there is no rush to show gameplay, which raises a lot of questions among those waiting for the game.
A GSC Game World* representative tried to explain why the developers are not sharing details: “Game development is a complex thing where everything is tied to everything else. Even if you have a certain thing/feature/model/location etc. completely ready, a minor bug or lack of polish in another thing can ruin the impression of the items from the previous list. That is precisely why we do not disclose such technical details and specifics, because they make no sense until the whole game works fully and comprehensively. Such a moment is usually called "going gold"”.
He also mentioned the technical aspect: “…we do not share details about exactly how we work with the engine. What I can say with confidence is that Unreal Engine 5 gives us the functionality and capabilities to make the Zone the way we envisioned it”.
The current release date for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl is December 8, but there are rumors of a postponement to 2023.
