As part of the annual GDC conference, a survey was conducted on companies’ attitudes toward NFTs and cryptocurrency, in which 2,700 developers participated. The gaming community will be glad to know that two-thirds of companies are completely uninterested in either.
- NFTs: 70% – not interested, 21% – somewhat interested, 7% – very interested, 1% – already working in this area;
- Cryptocurrency: 72% – not interested, 21% – somewhat interested, 6% – very interested, 1% – already using it.
Most respondents spoke extremely negatively about NFTs due to the huge number of scammers and the technology’s negative impact on the environment. One developer stated:
“How this hasn’t yet been recognized as a pyramid scheme is beyond my comprehension”.
Another asked:
“Why do we need this? What benefit will these technologies bring to our games? Who even uses them?”.
