Taiwan has banned exports of chips faster than PlayStation 2 to Russia and Belarus

Semiconductor exports account for 32% of Taiwan’s total exports. The largest markets are China, Singapore, the US, and Hong Kong

The Ministry of Economic Affairs of Taiwan has banned the export of high-tech goods to Russia and Belarus.

The ban applies to microprocessors or microcircuits that meet any of the following conditions:

  • Performance reaches 5 GFLOPS (PlayStation 2 performance is 6.2 GFLOPS) or higher, and the word length is 32 bits or more;
  • clock frequency exceeds 25 MHz;
  • More than 144 pins;
  • More than one data bus or serial communication port providing an external direct interconnect between system components with a transfer rate of 2.5 MB/s;
  • basic gate propagation delay time of less than 0.4 ns.

A ban was also imposed on various equipment required for the production of semiconductor devices.
